How BTEC grades line up with A-levels
The scales are designed to match. An Extended Diploma at DDD is 144 points, the same as AAA at A-level; DMM at 112 matches BBC. In the one-A-level-sized Extended Certificate, D* (56) equals an A-level A* and D (48) equals an A. The full A-level scale is on our A-level UCAS points page.

How many UCAS points is DMM?
DMM in a BTEC National Extended Diploma is worth 112 UCAS points — the same as BBC at A-level. DDM is 128 and DDD is 144.
Is a BTEC Extended Diploma really worth three A-levels?
In tariff size, yes. The top grade of D*D*D* is 168 points, exactly the same as A*A*A* at A-level, and DDD (144) matches AAA.
How many points is a Distinction* in the Extended Certificate?
A D* in the one-A-level-sized Extended Certificate is 56 points — the same as an A* at A-level. A Distinction is 48, a Merit 32 and a Pass 16.
Do universities accept BTEC UCAS points?
Courses with points-based offers count BTEC points like any others. Some courses ask for specific BTEC grades (for example DDM) or specific units instead, so always check the course page on ucas.com.
